This summer, we had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Cornell Cooperative and Onondaga County’s 4-H Youth and Family Development Organization over three weeks at three beautiful Onondaga County Parks locations: Oneida Shores, Highland Forest, and Pratt Falls. This partnership allowed us to inspire young people to work with their hands and take pride in their craftsmanship, all while enjoying the outdoors in these stunning parks.
Our Kitchen and Bath Designer, Paul Thompson, led team-building activities where camp-goers learned to build shelters using limited materials. After mastering several essential knots, the kids planned and executed their strategies to construct sturdy structures. Their dedication paid off—proud of their work, they kept the shelters standing for the remainder of the camp, regularly checking on them and making small adjustments to ensure their stability.
Working outdoors in these beautiful parks was a fantastic way to spend the day, and we are excited to continue our collaboration with Cornell Cooperative. We’re already in the planning stages for future projects and look forward to more opportunities to promote education and craftsmanship among our young community members.
